Alternative G7 Summit to amplify voices of voluntary sector

Co-creating Cornwall’s Future is an alternative summit to the G7, designed to inform and inspire the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector.

While the world looks at Cornwall for the G7 Summit, Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum is inviting VCSE peers worldwide to help co-create Cornwall’s future.

The aim is to empower future generations to steward Cornwall’s natural resources, sustain a thriving economy and remain healthy and well into old age.

The organisation places citizens and communities at the heart of everything they do and say and Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum believes that it is people who make Cornwall special.

The pandemic has highlighted what an indispensable asset the VCSE sector is to our society. Their talents, experience and timely support have equipped individuals and whole communities to overcome adversity during this crisis.

Despite one of its most challenging years yet, Cornwall VSF has also played its part through developing and maintaining strategic, thematic and local alliances to help create better conditions for mutuality, altruism and collaboration to thrive.

The online summit is designed to create further opportunities for co-creation across three key themes of work: economy, environment, and health. Holding the event online offers anyone in the sector the chance to actively engage in an inclusive way, so that as many voices as possible can be heard on the day.

The agenda for the event has been set and can be viewed here. Presentations and workshops will include inspiring and empowering examples of best practice as well as case studies and examples of co-creation which evokes systemic change.

Grassroots organisations such as Traveller Space and Treverbyn Hall will also present short workshops to highlight the benefits of community response, in building a fair society.

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall, whose commitment to the voluntary sector is evidenced by her patronage of several Cornish charities. will start the day’s events with a video message, during which she will extend her thanks to each and everyone in the voluntary sector for ‘doing a proper job.’

Helen Boardman, CEO of Cornwall VSF said: ‘We want to amplify the voices of our voluntary sector and residents and showcase their great ideas on how we can improve society, especially at this time when the world is looking at Cornwall.

‘The Duchess’ message of encouragement for the voluntary sector will highlight the importance each and every person contributes to making Cornwall everything it is.’
