Care homes to use clean air tech to help fight Covid

Care provider Majesticare has teamed up with clean air experts’ 4th Wave Technology and Airnitative to help keep staff, residents and loved ones safe this winter.

In order to bolster the Covid-19 safety measures across its family of eight care homes, Majesticare has invested in 140 clean air technology units that can destroy airborne viruses, bacteria, mould and fungi in one single air pass.

The CE-certified VIRUSKILLER™ decontamination units were developed in response to the SARS outbreak in 2003. Unlike other air filtration systems, which may recirculate dirty or toxic air back into a space, the VIRUSKILLER™ units only require a single air pass through a combination of air filtration, purification and deactivation to expel completely safe and clean air.

As care providers across the UK have gone above and beyond to enhance hygiene measures throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, indoor air pollution must also urgently be addressed.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the levels of indoor air pollutants can be two to five times higher than outdoors, which is a concern for care home residents who spent a significant amount of time inside.

‘We are delighted to become key partners with 4th Wave Technology and Airnitiative to integrate pioneering clean air technology across our portfolio of award-winning luxury care homes,’ said Majesticare’s head of communications, Saskia Binns.

‘The health and wellbeing of our residents and our Majesticare teams is our absolute priority, and from the very start of the pandemic we have been proactive in our vision to be at the forefront of innovation in care.

‘Recognising the true importance of maintaining a high standard of indoor air quality, we have added the air purifiers to residents’ rooms, our safe indoor visiting rooms and throughout our homes. This not only supports safeguarding against the spread of airborne viruses and bacteria, but works to mitigate adverse effects of air pollution on respiratory and mental health.’

The co-founder of Airnitiative, Kye Barnfield added: ‘From the moment we engaged with Majesticare it was clear to see their dedication in setting the highest of standards and their constant pursuit of new innovations to benefit their residents. With such a philosophy, they swiftly recognised the value of our technology and deployed units across their amazing collection of homes. Throughout the Covid19 pandemic, Majesticare have shown an exceptional track record of resident protection and safety, and we are proud to be working with them.’
