£3m funding still available for homelessness charities

Homeless Link has extended the deadline for applications for its COVID-19 Homelessness Response Fund to September 28 2020.

The fund, which was due to close on September 14,  aims to provide emergency financial assistance to local homelessness organisations, preventing closure, service cuts or staff redundancies threatened by increased operational costs and a loss of fundraised income due to the coronavirus.

A spokesman for the national membership charity said it will also support organisations that have needed to expand or adapt their services in light of COVID-19 to support people experiencing homelessness safely and effectively.

The initiative is supported by National Lottery funding, which has committed £4.8m to help provide emergency financial assistance to small and medium-sized homelessness organisations to support their response to coronavirus.

A spokesman for Homeless Link said it still has £3.380m of funding to distribute.

A further £680,000 was also made available by Comic Relief, which raises money to support people living incredibly tough lives, and is primarily being allocated to charities based in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The deadline for this has also been extended to September 28 and approximately half of the funding is still available.

A spokesman for Homless Link said it will fund frontline organisations, both members and non-members, where more than half of beneficiaries are people experiencing homelessness.

Applicants must have an annual turnover of less than £5m. For more information or to apply, click here.
