LGA Launches Return To Social Work Scheme

The Local Government Association (LGA) has launched a programme aimed at encouraging former social workers to return to the profession.

The Return to Social Work programme is targeted towards people with a background in statutory social work who have been out of practice for between two and ten years.

A spokesman for the LGA said the scheme will help former social workers ‘regain the confidence, experience and knowledge’ needed to re-enter the local authority workforce, by providing training in law, policy and practice issues. Candidates will also receive placements, coaching, mentoring and interview preparation.

Those who have been out of the profession for between two to five years will be eligible for 30 days of training under the scheme, while those who have not practised for five to 10 years will receive sixty days.

Most of the training will be at online-based with workshops and placements taking place at locations across the country, travel costs will not be reimbursed.

Applications will be open until March 31 2020. Those who past the first stage will be asked to complete a case study assessment followed by a video interview in April, which will be recorded and reviewed by the training provider.

The successful candidates will be notified at the start of May and will need to obtain a portable Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service Certificate (DBS). which the LGA will pay for. However, candidates will need to supply the necessary documents to complete the application, including your current passport, proof of address and any supporting documentation.
